Steel Structure Maintenance Manual
If the steel structure is exposed to air or humidity for a long time, and there is no protective measures on the surface, corrosion, deformation or stress failure will occur, causing the structure to fail prematurely. Therefore, in order to achieve the expected service life of the steel structure, in addition to the necessary protective measures when making the steel structure, the steel structure needs to be regularly inspected, and maintained.
Inspection and Maintenance of Main Steel Structure Anti-rust and Anti-corrosion
The general steel structure is designed for a service life of 50 years. Most steel structure damage is caused by corrosion. "Steel Structure Design Code" clearly stipulates that for projects with a design life of more than 25 years, the components need to be maintained every 3 years. And the project in Uganda is expoy paint, so we can maintain it every 5~7years.
1. Inspection of anti-corrosion coating: regularly check the intact condition of the surface coating of the steel structure, and one of the following conditions should be maintained in time.
(1) It is found that the area of the layer surface that has lost its gloss up to 90%;
(2) The surface area of the coating surface is rough, weathered and dry cracked up to 25%;
(3) The paint film bulges on the coating and the area of the components with slight corrosion up to 40%
2. Methods for maintenance of anti-corrosion coatings
The maintenance method is to repaint the damaged coating. The precautions when painting are as follows:
(1) Before the painting, the base layer should be thoroughly cleaned and kept dry, and the primer should be applied as soon as possible within 8 hours.
(2) When brushing the topcoat, it should be painted according to the color and variety required by the design. The brushing method is the same as the primer.
Inspection and Maintenance of High-strength Bolts
High-strength bolts are the standard parts connecting H steel columns and H steel beams in the steel structure. During use, the high-strength bolts should be checked regularly for looseness. If they are loose, use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts.
Inspection and Maintenance of Secondary Steel Structure
The secondary steel structure is composed of tie tube, roof horizontal bracing, wall vertical bracing, roof purline, wall purline, strutting piece, knee brace and casing.
During use, regularly check whether the surface coating has fallen off, and the location where the surface coating has fallen off should be brushed in time. Check whether the bolt is loose, and tighten the loose bolt in time.
